    The Mortgage Advisor-Primary Market is responsible for deepening the relationships of new and existing members with Mortgage loans, and for the acquisition of new mortgages within their assigned location or territory.  In addition, the Mortgage Advisor will serve as the primary point of contact for complex mortgage products, uncovering member needs, pre-qualifying members to determine the proper loan program, keeping members informed on their loan status and assisting processing as needed.  The Mortgage Advisor will also serve as a mentor and coach to the Hybrid consultants and managers to enhance their Mortgage knowledge and to provide tools and guidance on complex transactions.

    In this job, you will

    • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with BECU Competencies and Information Protection requirements.
    • Serve as the first point of contact for products, services and processes related to Mortgage application through funding.
    • Deepen and retain Mortgage member relationships (new and existing) through thorough needs assessment, fulfillment and follow-up.
    • Contribute to individual and team goal attainment in assigned centers/branches by deepening the member/customer experience, coaching and developing referral generation, and other stated goals.
    • Maintain and grow Mortgage referral relationships with members, employees, business development managers and third parties.
    • Coach and mentor branch/center teams to determine Mortgage sales opportunities among new and existing members. Educate Member Consultants and Managers in the identification and servicing of member needs and process improvement of mortgages.
    • Represent BECU in the community, actively participating in community organizations and events when appropriate to generate new Mortgage business, deepen relationships with existing member and educate others about BECU’s mortgage products and services.
    • Negotiate terms and conditions of loans with members in accordance with credit union policies and procedures.
    • Review files referred utilizing automated underwriting programs, correct deficiencies that would provide approval. Refer loans not approved by the automated underwriting programs to BECU underwriters.
    • Be familiar with all federal and state regulations governing lending, with an emphasis on Mortgage lending including on home equity loans and train staff regarding compliance updates.
    • Have a thorough knowledge of all Mortgage, consumer loans and features offered by the Credit Union in order to generate leads.
    • Have a thorough understanding of Mortgage lending loan origination system (LOS) underwriting, processing, guidelines and tracking programs, to train and coach consultants as needed.
    • Establish and foster relationships with other mortgage roles and department in the organization to improve the member experience and production results.
    • Keep informed of trends and developments in the Mortgage industry and in the local real estate market.
    • Generate new Mortgage relationships through prospecting and lead generation.
    • Serve as an escalation point for Member issues and concerns.
    • Maintain effective communication with all Credit Union employees to ensure coordination and exchange of information for accomplishing Credit Union goals.
    • For the purpose of attaining Credit Union goals, it is the responsibility of each employee to strive for the continuous improvement of processes and quality of service.

    • Ability to adapt to change within working responsibilities, be it internal, market or regulatory driven.
    • Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives, goals, and projects.
    • Moderate travel by automobile.
    • B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent work or education related experience.
    • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in mortgage loan production, including conventional, FHA, and VA products. Experience as a Member Consultant preferred.
    • Minimum 2-3 years of mortgage loan sales experience, and/or consultative sales experience in financial services or a financial institution.
    • Compliance with SAFE Act legislation, which requires annual registration as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO).
